Meet your Board of Directors!
Tammy Bauman, President
Karen Lyons, Vice President
I believe in supporting our community through local businesses and charity efforts and what better way than with phriends and partying with a purpose. Since joining the AZ PHC in 2013, I have been on the BOD for two years (first as Member at Large, second as Secretary) and participated on the 2016 Parrot Grande committee as the 50/50 chair. My hubby (Adam aka Whiskers) and I maintain the club website. I really enjoy our club and am glad Whiskers and I decided to join. The camaraderie is awesome and I enjoy doing great charity work while having fun. I look forward to continued Partying with a Purpose and another great year on the BOD!
Barb Young, Secretary
I have been a Parrot Head since 2004 and on the BOD almost every year since 2008 as either Secretary or a Member-At-Large. I’ve hosted Mardi Gras and Christmas In July parties and co-chaired Parrot Grande for 4 years. And we still hold the record of $10,000 raised at the Salsa Challenge/Margarita Mix Off contest. But the thing I like most about the AZPHC is the people. It’s fun to have the parties and go to the events, but it’s the club members that keep me around. You will never meet a nicer bunch of people than the Parrot Heads. When it comes to the “Party With A Purpose” motto, we know how to do it up right! To me, serving on the BOD has been a good way to give back to the community by volunteering to help. Phins up!
Judy Churchill, Treasurer
I have been a member of AZPHC for 2 years. This is my first year on the BOD and bring my experience from serving on my homeowners’ board for 9 years as Secretary/Treasurer and an accountant (with a personality) by trade.
I have been to a few Happy Hours, House Parties and Concerts—I would be the quiet one with a smile and a margarita or glass of wine. I have also participated in club-sponsored charities events such as PAC911 (Phoenix Animal Care Coalition), Heart Walk and Alzheimer Walk. Other charities I support are 1Mission, rebuilding the Sunnyslope Community, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the American Lung Association.
I am looking to forward to being your treasurer and Partying with a Purpose!
Janet Spittle, Member at Large
I joined AZ Parrot Head Club in 2014. My first event was the Water Station at the Rock and Roll Marathon. Since then I have attended over 20 club events including the Salsa Challenges, Packages from Home, Tour of the USO facility at the Airport, Bowling, Annual Picnic, Holiday Parties, Happy Hours and Parrot Grande.
In late 2015 I joined the Membership Committee and assisted making membership and event badges for all the 2016 members and events. I also assist with the 50/50 raffle at Club events. March of 2016 I was asked to fill an open Member at Large position on the Board and have attended all the Board of Director meeting since accepting the position. I recently volunteered to chair the collection of personal hygiene items throughout the year for different charity organizations. This way the Club will have items on hand for donation instead of collecting at the time of the event.
I will continue as a Member at Large on the Board to assist the AZPHC to continue to grow and “Party with a Purpose,” actively bringing new suggestions and be of service as needed.
Lori Matteson, Member at Large
I have been involved with this club since about 2008 and have enjoyed participating in many of the club activities. Some of the events I have participated in are PF Chang’s Rock & Roll Marathon, Salsa Challenge, Parrot Grande, and Fins to the West.
I joined the Board in 2016 as Member at Large and chair the Newsletter and Mini Mart. I am looking forward to the New Year of 2017 and all the exciting events to come.
Lorie Smith, Member at Large
I have volunteered most of my adult life and I love the feeling of making a difference in someone’s life. This past year or so I’ve not been involved in the club like I should be or really want to be. I want to be an active member, involved making a difference, and held accountable. I want to party with a purpose…:) I have had many volunteer roles over the years. I am an Elk, I have been the fundraiser and coordinator for Wreaths Across America (Prescott National Cemetery) a director of a women’s ministry in Scottsdale that had 500 women members, USO volunteer, Hospice of the Valley volunteer (visited my patients weekly to see how they were), CASA (I was the advocate for a child in foster care), Street ministry ( for inner city youth, clothe, feed and mentor), Forsaken Not ( for abused women), Patriot Guard Riders (attend funerals & homecomings for veterans), volunteered with Junior Achievement (taught in the public school in south Scottsdale), The Super Bowl Committee ( when the super bowl was in Arizona), and other various single event opportunities. I love to volunteer and be involved.

Sonja Schroder, Member at Large
I joined the Club 11 years ago and at my first meeting, volunteered to Chair the Water Station for the PF Chang’s Rock & Roll Marathon with my friend Julie Lockwood. This event calls for over 75 volunteers and was one of the Clubs biggest event for accumulating the majority of our community hours needed to maintain our “non-profit” status. I have been active in the club volunteering for many of our hosted events including Packages from Home, UMOM, Salsa Challenge, Jell-O Shot Express, Happy Hour’s, Fins to the West, Vegas Trips and of course Parrot Grande. I was instrumental in negotiating the contract for our venue; The Pointe Tapatillo Cliffs Hilton, for our Parrot Grande event this year with a private pool, suite rooms and the lowest drink prices offered in many years past.
I have accepted the position of Chair for the 2017 Parrot Grande and hope to make this event one that everyone will enjoy and remember for years to come. I have served at on the AZ Board in the capacity of President in 2014 and Board Member at Large for 5 years. I enjoy selling tickets, t-shirts and signing up new members for the Club, of which I have signed up over 75 new members over the course of my involvement with the AZPHC. I am the type of person that if I take on a project or volunteer for a task – I commit 100% to my efforts. I will strive and work hard to be successful!
I believe that in this position, I can continue to increase the membership; get more people involved and attempt to “step outside the box” and try some new ideas within the Club! Our motto is to “Party with a Purpose” and I intend to just do that! My “Purpose” is to help the club grow on many levels and then enjoy the “Party” along the way!
Jan Lockwood, Member at Large
I have been a Parrothead since 2007. I was introduced to the club through my wife Julie and her good friend Sonja Schroder and the infamous Jello Shot Express. Since that time Julie and I have been the CO-Chairs of the very successful My Nana’s Annual Salsa Challenge held each year to raise funds for the Arizona Hemophilia Association; as well as other events such as “Packages From Home, Parrot Grande, Alzheimer’s Walk, Heart Walk, and many Happy Hours” – to name a few events throughout the years. I have had the distinct pleasure of being a past President of the club. As well as a Board of Directors member at large this past year. I look forward to another great year as your newly elected member at large representative. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
As a note to my fellow members; the only way to really get anything out of any club is participation. Participation or the giving of your time is the essence of anything we do. Your time is valuable and something not always tracked on a clock or a calendar. It is our only true measure of our worth while we are here on this planet; since it is something we choose to give to help others. Or just be apart of something bigger than ourselves. With that being said; I encourage you to participate in your club, get involved where you can; and help us “Party with a Purpose”
Phred Parrot, Mascot
I am the official mascot of the Arizona Parrot Head Club. I suppose you could say I have the best life, I simply travel around the world with my phriends who are parrot heads and get to visit some of the most beautiful places and listen to some amazing musicians and all the while I never have to pay for a Landshark or a boat drink! I hope you’ll enjoy reading about my adventures and that you’ll look into joining your local parrot head club and come meet me soon at a tropical beach paradise bar near you soon.
